My brain is in the driver’s seat on autopilot and I’m in the backseat with no seatbelt, white-knuckling the overhead door handles. On days when I can manage to sync up with my brain, I can churn out a miraculous amount of material. Retrospectively, getting myself into high-stakes, deadline-breathing-down-my-neck scenarios were the only way I could successfully complete much of anything. I always thrived under pressure and crumbled in private. I haven’t gotten the hang of existing in a happy medium just yet.
